Kimberly-Clark has patented a dispersible, surface, cleaning wipe made using cellulose fibers and commercial, tissue strength agents. The wipe is insoluble in aqueous alcohol based, acetone-rich or other solvent, wetting solutions, but becomes dispersible in disposal water. The patent provides an opportunity to make a lower cost, tissue based wipe that could be used for sanitizing and cleaning and provide the additional benefit of reducing plastic waste that could be flushed or landfilled.
